A DETECTIVE is hoping his years spent on the beat will help him pound the streets in the Great North Run next weekend.
Toby Fawcett-Greaves, a detective sergeant in the public protection team at Chesterfield, is taking part in the 13 mile run from Newcastle city centre to South Shields on Sunday, September 16.
Money he raises will go to the Blue Light Foundation set up by PC David Rathband while he was recovering in hospital from injuries sustained when he was shot and blinded by Raoul Moat in July 2010.
PC Rathband, who later killed himself, was one of three people shot by Moat after the gunman was released from prison.
DS Fawcett-Greaves said: “I’m taking part in the Great North Run for Blue Lamp Foundation because I want to do my little bit to contribute towards its £1 million target. My aim is to complete the race in under two hours and I hope to be able to raise £1,000.”
