SHEFFIELD dance student Dominic Harrison has been awarded a contract with Scottish Ballet.

Dominic, aged 19, who lives in Greystones, is a final-year student at the Central School of Ballet in London, one of Europe’s leading centres for dance training.

A former pupil of the Bailey Cox Dance Academy in Sheffield, he joined CSB at the age of 16 and will graduate this month with a BA (Hons) in Professional Dance and Performance accredited by the University of Kent.

He will join Scottish Ballet, based in Glasgow, in November.

Sara Matthews, director of CSB, said: “Graduate employment of dance students has been severely affected by the challenging economic climate so we are particularly delighted that so many of our students, like Dominic, have found jobs in the world’s top ballet and dance companies. This is an excellent opportunity for Dominic, one of our most talented students.”

The Sheffield student has been gaining experience through touring with Ballet Central this spring. A five-month UK tour visited 20 venues including the Lowry in Salford Quays and the Linbury Studio Theatre at the Royal Opera House. The tour concludes this month at the Unicorn Theatre in London.
