Doncaster heavy metal singer beats Louis Tomlinson and Lesley Garrett in poll to find town's top musician

Doncaster-born Lawrence Taylor, lead singer of Sheffield metalcore band While She Sleeps, polled more than half of the votes in our poll to discover the town's greatest music stars.

He easily beat off the likes of 1D favourite Louis and so-called Donny Diva Lesley - securing a whopping 53% of the vote which also included the likes of St Elmo's Fire star John Parr and Conisbrough-born Is This The Way To Amarillo singer Tony Christie.

Lawrence, better known as Loz, joined the band in 2009 after original vocalist Jordan Widdowson quit - and While She Sleeps have released two albums and have become a renowned live act across the globe, receiving the Best British Newcomer award at the Kerrang! Awards in 2012.

The vote put him well-ahead of runners-up, Britain's Got Talent stars 2 Grand, made up of grandad and grand-daughter singing duo John Neill and Sallie Lax, who scored 8% of the vote.

Both beat off the challenge of Louis Tomlinson and John Parr who secured 5% of the vote each to finish joint third.

Only two Doncaster born musicians from among the 18 available to vote for failed to pick up any nominations - with acclaimed cornet player Roger Webster and Johnny Shentall, who was recruited to reality TV band Hear'Say both achieving a 0% score.
