Doncaster Rovers: Teams above us '˜getting edgy' - Ferguson

And Doncaster Rovers boss Darren Ferguson says the teams above them in the table who are still not mathematically safe will be getting “edgy”.

An emphatic 2-0 win over Coventry City on Saturday saw Rovers move to within three points of safety - although not everything went to plan.

Shrewsbury Town’s surprise win at Gillingham pushed them five points clear of Rovers, who only have two games left to play.

Third bottom Rovers, however, could still potentially leapfrog Blackpool, Fleetwood, Shrewsbury and Chesterfield if they were to claim six points from six.

Ferguson said: “Teams are going to be edgy if they are looking over their shoulder and you just can’t see a win coming.

“When you’re chasing teams it’s easier, especially when you’ve got momentum at this part of a season.

“We’ve got a bit of momentum now. You can see the belief.

“There’s four teams we can still catch with two games to go.

“All we spoke about last week was take it to the Crewe game.

“And all we’ll speak about this week is take it to the last game.

“I think one thing we’ve had in our advantage is that every game we’ve played, certainly the last three, we’ve had to win. We’ll have that mentality if we can get it to the last game. We have to win every game we play.

“Another slight advantage next weekend is that Fleetwood don’t play until Monday, If we win, we’re level with Fleetwood.”

Shrewsbury will be safe if they win their game in hand at Walsall tomorrow night.

Blackpool host Wigan in an early kick off on Saturday, Chesterfield are at home to Bury, while Fleetwood go to Walsall on Monday.

Meanwhile, Gary McSheffrey has returned to Scunthorpe United for a scan on his knee after going off injured against Coventry. Ferguson admitted that the forward was unlikely to play again this season.

Richard Chaplow missed Saturday’s win after pulling his hamstring and is rated 50/50 for this weekend’s trip to Crewe.
