Don't Fret: Colton will be it and available for Sheffield Steelers

Colton Fretter is reminding his Steelers' bosses he will be available to play another season - this time fully fit.

The forward’s’s groin injury robbed him of 39 games in the current campaign.

The Canadian returned to the ice for Sheffield’s ill-fated play offs, scoring in the last game to show his eye for a goal hadn’t gone away.

“I started the season with a flu bug and then two tendons ripped partially away from my pelvic bone” said the 34-year-old.

“It was an extremely frustrating year, it would have been for any athlete.

“I was probably only fit for two weeks of the whole year.

“At the Play Offs I wasn’t really fit enough to take a healthy import slot but when Zack (Fitzgerald) got injured a position opened up and I was happy to come in and do what I could.

“I knew I wouldn’t be able to hit, or stop and start the way I’d like to, but I’d started to feel better in the week and a half leading up to the Play Offs.

“I don’t know what will happen next year. But I want the owner and coaches to know that I am passed the injury now and I will play next year.

“There’s no doubt in my mind there will be no problems going forward, whether it is this team or another.”

Fretter is going to rest for a while before re-building for the 2016-17 season.

Fretter, described by Sheffield coach Paul Thompson as one of the finest forwards in the Elite League, will remain studying at Sheffield University until June, while many of his overseas team-mates have headed home.
