Student officer PC Samantha Howson and her tutor PC Claire Atkinson, who are based in Rotherham, went on a fact-finding mission to a National Police Air Service base in Manchester earlier this month and they got to go out in the force chopper.

While up in the air they helped officers to locate a wanted man on the ground.

Sergeant Simon Kirkham said: “NPAS were incredibly supportive and helpful, giving a detailed presentation to our officers before taking PC Howson up in the helicopter to assist with various incidents in Manchester and Liverpool.

“While she was in the air, PC Howson helped the crew in the helicopter and officers locate suspects on the ground, including one man who was arrested on suspicion of burglary."

PC Howson said: “It was an amazing, eye opening experience."
