Unhappy parents at Ecclesall C of E Junior School have set up a petition about the lack of a crossing patrol outside the school.

One thousand people have now signed a petition calling for a new lollipop lady and crossing near a Sheffield school.

The pledge was started after a driver drove through a crossing near Ecclesall CE Junior School, Ringinglow Road, while children were walking on it.

Parents are now taking their fight to a full council meeting at Sheffield Town Hall. The school’s previous crossing warden left in October, due to a bad back.

Mum Louise Colgate, of High Storrs, said: “The level of support for the petition has been amazing, it just shows how local people really feel about this issue.

“But we are still trying to reach 2,500 signatures before the petition closing date of February 3.”

She said she was ‘astounded’ the warden position had not yet been advertised.

The petition is being presented to the council on February 4.
