Consultation ends into Sheffield’s second university technical college

Dozens of people have given their views on plans for a second university technical college in Sheffield.

A total of 329 people have taken part in the consultation for UTC 2 Sheffield for Human Sciences and Computing.

The £10m facility is due to open at the Olympic Legacy Park in September 2016 and will see students study a combination of qualifications in computer sciences, healthcare and sport alongside academic subjects.

The venture is being led by The Sheffield College, along with Sheffield Hallam University and Sheffield Chamber of Commerce.

Richard Wright, executive director, Sheffield Chamber of Commerce, said: “It’s good to see the level of interest in UTC 2. We believe this is partly down to the success of UTC1, which has really proven that you can have an employer-student partnership that is a win-win for both.”

Simon Green, executive director of Place at Sheffield Council, said: “I’m really pleased so many young people, parents and employers have put their views forward during the seven-week consultation as this will really help us shape how Sheffield’s second UTC develops and evolves for the future, in what is a unique offering as part of the Olympic Legacy Park.”
