Good results come in right across South Yorkshire

Teenagers in Barnsley and Rotherham achieved a range of first class A-level results with most achieving first or second choice university places.

At Penistone Grammar the number of A* grades was up by a third, with four winning Oxbridge places to read English, maths or sciences.

At Barnsley Academy every student applying for university obtained the grades they needed, while those studying for BTEC qualifications also performed well.

Barnsley Sixth Form College said grades in 16 subjects had improved, while 14 of them now had 100 per cent pass rates.

Students will now be taking up places at universities including Sheffield, Manchester, Lancaster and Huddersfield.

At Wales High School staff were delighted with the performance of Luke Cotter, who is to study medicine at Oxford.

Top achievers at Thomas Rotherham College included Ben jones, Jessica Williams and Alex Wong, who each achieved three A* grades. Alex is going to study at Oxford.
