Jobs loss fear at improving academy

Support staff at Sheffield Park Academy, Manor, that has just had its best ever GCSE results, are to hold a strike ballot over the threatened loss of 33 jobs.

A proposed restructure could see staff, including teaching assistants, learning mentors, student services staff and dinner ladies, being made redundant.

GMB regional officer Peter Davies, said: “There was a huge budget deficit but over the past 18 months they’ve managed to turn that around. Instead of celebrating that they are looking where they can cut further.”

Headteacher Craig Dillon says the school was ‘overstaffed’ in terms of administrative and support employees following a drop in pupil numbers.
