OPPOSITION Liberal Democrats in Sheffield will next week try to halt plans to cut funding to an outdoor education centre .

They say a £8,000 reduction for Mayfield Environmental Education Centre in Fulwood, which provides outdoor education to schools, will place its future at risk.

Coun Andrew Sangar, Lib Dem councillor for Fulwood, who will propose the motion next Wednesday, said the centre offered “a vital service” and it was “absurd” for Labour to claim they’ve been forced to make the cut “when they’re spending millions on makeovers for Town Hall offices.

“The recent refurbishment of the nearby Shepherd Wheel provides an opportunity to enhance the Mayfield Centre experience and yet at the same time Labour councillors are undermining the incredible effort of local volunteers by cutting the funding.”
