School failing, say inspectors

A SHEFFIELD primary school has been placed on the failing blacklist after inspectors found its pupils are receiving unacceptable standards of education.

Senior staff at St Thomas More RC Primary at Grenoside have also been criticised for not showing they have the capability to turn the school around.

Inspectors found that achievement levels at the school were inadequate, especially among eight-to-11-year-olds where every group of pupils were failing to make sufficient progress.

A marked decline was found in almost all aspects of the school’s work since the previous Ofsted inspection, when it was rated ‘good’.

A high turnover of staff had created inconsistency and pupils were not properly prepared for secondary school.

The council says that the school is working closely with another primary to address the issues, and an action plan will be submitted soon to Ofsted.
