Staff at the Sheffield College City Campus will go on strike tomorrow over a £3million cut in government funding.

Students have been told to attend the campus, on Granville Road, as normal as it will still be open for some classes and private study.

All exams will go ahead as planned and are not affected by the one-day strike.

The University and College Union (UCU) strike only affects the City and Olive Grove Road campuses.

Some evening classes at City campus may be affected but the refectory, learning resource centre and children’s nursery at City campus will open as usual.

Sheffield College Principal Heather Smith said: “We will stay open as part of our commitment to reducing the impact of industrial action on our students, and all exams will go ahead as normal.

“The College is making savings equivalent to 25 full time posts.

“We need to generate additional income and save costs in response to £3million in national government funding cuts. Any job losses are regrettable. We are committed to minimising any potential compulsory redundancies.”

The cuts will come into force from September 2015 to August 2016.

Earlier this year, there were a total of 13 compulsory redundancies across the College.
