Teacher reprimanded over payslip snooping

A SHEFFIELD teacher who snooped at colleagues’ payslips has been reprimanded by his professional body.

Akbar Ali, a design and technology teacher at Meadowhead School from September 1998 to November 2010, appeared before the General Teaching Council’s Professional Conduct Committee, where he was found guilty of unacceptable professional conduct.

The hearing heard that in December 2009, during a search of Mr Ali’s house, police recovered the payslips of two teachers at the school.

Mr Ali admitted taking them from staff pigeon holes and looking at the information to find out information about teacher and learning responsibility points.

“We are satisfied that, in taking, viewing, opening and retaining the payslips, Mr Ali’s conduct fell short of the standard expected of a registered teacher and was a breach of the standards of propriety expected of the profession,” said a committee spokesman.

An official reprimand will remain on the teaching register for two years.

Mr Ali resigned from the school following a period of suspension.
