Controversy over lorries in Greenhill, Beauchief and Woodseats rumbled on this week as councillors voted to lift a 24-hour HGV ban on Bocking Lane.
Lorries will be able to use the route during the day to take the pressure off Abbey Lane, where there is a primary school.
Both groups of residents have been campaigning for their residential areas to be protected.
Coun Bryan Lodge said: “It is sad having two sets of residents who appear to be at odds with each other, but I think this is the best compromise.”
Speed indicator devices are due to be installed on Bocking Lane.
