No escape for tourists who leave their litter

visitors to Doncaster cannot escape justice if they leave their litter on the streets, say councillors.

Among those fined recently by Doncaster magistrates for littering were culprits from as far afield as Manchester, proving it doesn’t matter whether people are local or not, the council is still serious about making them pay for spoiling neighbourhoods.

Deputy Mayor Cynthia Ransome, Cabinet Member for Street Scene, said: “We work hard to make Doncaster an attractive place to live, work and visit so anyone who is caught littering has to pay for their actions.

“People should take pride in where they live, and act responsibly when visiting places.”

The following were fined by magistrates for depositing litter: Andrew Parks, Laburnum Drive, Armthorpe, £40; Kirston Dawson, Wadworth Street, Denaby, £75; Ashleigh and Wendy Atkinson, Millercent Square, Maltby, both £200; Joseph Bamford, Boarshaw Road, Middleton, Manchester, £75; Stacey Simpson, Memoir Grove, Rossington, £35; Richard Little, Willington Road, Skellow, £35; Callum Thewlis, Farthing Avenue, Scunthorpe, £35.

Fined £200: Donna Hayes, Welfare Road, Woodlands; Christopher Haywood, Central Boulevard Wheatley; Suzanne Howe, Regent Street Doncaster; Sarah McKay, Great North Road, Woodlands; Becky Nixon, Darlington Walk, Moorends; Kerry Palmer, South Road, Moorends; Tina Rattigan, Southend, Dunscroft; Lee Richardson, Broadway, Dunscroft; Joanne Robinson, Great North Road, Woodlands; Bethany Shepherd of Ramsden Road;Richard Teum, Tait Avenue, Edlington; Debbera Warwick, Stanwell Walk, Sheffield; Ben Webber, Exchange Street, South Elmsall.
