PROPOSALS for a park and ride near Dore railway station are edging forward.
Details of a scheme for 130 spaces on the site of a former garden centre off Abbeydale Road South have been submitted for council approval.
It is hoped the park and ride will not only make it easier for drivers to use the station, but stop them clogging up residential roads such as Dore Road, Ladies Spring Grove and Ladies Spring Drive, which has led to complaints from residents. Dore station only has 20 off-street parking spaces.
As a result of public consultation, the number of spaces on the old garden centre land has been slightly reduced so that cherry and sycamore trees can be retained. South Yorkshire Passenger Transport Executive’s scheme includes parking for up to 20 cycles, lighting and CCTV.
