WORK started this week on improvements to the Penistone rail line with the aim of making the journey smoother and more reliable.
Four miles of track will be replaced over five weeks, with the job being done late at night between Monday and Friday. Buses will be used for weekday services after 9pm between Barnsley and Huddersfield s.
Chris Jackson, area general manager for Network Rail, said: “The Penistone line is a key route for commuters into Sheffield as well as a popular leisure route.
“This latest investment in the line will help to make life more comfortable for passengers travelling on the route and to support further growth in passenger numbers.”
