Explosive Kell Brook sees off Kevin Bizier in two rounds in Sheffield

The overwhelming power and precision of Kell Brook's fists rendered tonight's IBF world title defence something of a nonsense tonight.

Brook successfully defended his IBF welterweight title with a second-round stoppage of Kevin Bizier at Sheffield Arena.

As his gym-mate Atif Shafiq had mentioned days earlier the miss-match was something of a waste of time - Brook is so much better than Bizier and, in fact, his previous two victims Franke Gavin and Jo Jo Dan.

Brook, 29, had too much strength for the Canadian visitor whom he drew blood from in the first round.

In the second, with blood streaming down Bizier's cheek and big right sent the challenger to the deck.

After an eight count Bizier never looked like he could carry on and it was only a matter of time - two minutes 15 seconds into the period to be precise - that the referee stopped it.

In some respects Kell can't win...even though he did.

Some would say the quick KO shone a light solely on the standard of the challenger.

Yet if it had gone the distance Brook would have been slaughtered in the press and social media for not seeing him off earlier.

"I want the big fights now," Brook said immediately after his third defence. of his IBF welterweight crown.

He surely deserves it.

He also paid tribute to the loud and lively Arena crowd who paid good money on a rainy night to get behind their man.

The 26-year-old English super welterweight champion wrote on Facebook: " Worked so hard, trained so hard and yesterday whilst training I snapped my Achillies heel. I was sparring and was in the best shape of my life, knowing this fight was going to be an easy win for me.

"I'm devastated just as much as you all are. The injury has been bugging me for the past year and yesterday it went unexpectedly.

"I will be coming back stronger and don't you all worry I will be coming home with those belts and a world title !! Mark my words."
