Female fraudster targeting Sheffield railway station passengers

Police have warned people using Sheffield railway station of a woman attempting defraud well-meaning members of the public.

The Sheffield Central Local Policing Team has received reports of a woman attempting to get money from people near to the railway station and in the city centre.

A spokesman said: “The woman is reported to be white, aged in her 30s, of average height and slim build, with long blonde hair. She pretends to be stranded and upset, having lost her purse, and desperately needs a specific sum of money, such as £26.50, for the coach or train back to another town - often Burton or Birmingham.

“If you are unsure, and worried about the safety of someone you think is a genuine person in need, you can direct them the nearest police station or call us on 101.”
