Firms offered redundancy advice

BUNGLED redundancy procedures led to a worker being awarded compensation of £50,000 by an employment tribunal after making claims of unfair dismissal and age discrimination.

Proceedings were witnessed by small business representatives from Sheffield in a lesson showing the value of taking proper legal advice.

The case was a mock employment tribunal, held by Attercliffe-based Wosskow-Brown solicitors at HSBC bank in Tinsley.

Alan Kennedy, employment solicitor, said: “The aim was to alert companies to the laws surrounding redundancy - had the company involved taken good quality legal advice at an early stage, the tribunal and costs could have been avoided.”
