Telegraph in Focus Light - showing all the vehicle activity in Hillsborough , Sheffield taken by John Leigh

Another month has passed and we have been really impressed with your entries for our light theme. The standard has been really high but of course there is only one winner. This month the prize of £25 goes to John Leigh with his image of light trails in Hillsborough. He got the ambience just right with his perfect exposure and the right amount of vehicles passing. His composition made for a great winning photo. Runner up was John Scholey’s firework image.

I was impressed with another one of John Leigh’s images, taken on his mobile phone, at Hillsborough Stadium as the crowd used their phones to create light. It shows that you don’t need a fancy camera to create a striking image.

Gareth Morgan submitted a series of abstract images, but this one of a Wicker workshop was particularly intriguing. And a shout out from the ladies as Karen Perkins took another iconic Sheffield landmark all lit up, while Alexa Christou gave us another take on The Wave near the station.

I know you have all been waiting for our final theme of the year and I have to be obvious with my theme choice and go with ‘winter’. We have had our first snowfall over the weekend and I’m sure some of you have already managed to capture the magic. You may have images you can dig out of your archives from previous years. Winter doesn’t always need to be a picture postcard scene, there are social aspects too, like a child’s face when they get to meet Santa, or an elderly family member tucked up under a blanket with a mug of Bovril. I’m really looking forward to seeing your twinkling baubles and robins on frosty twigs so get out there and be inspired.

Telegraph in focus Light I took this photograph on a wet evening outside the station. It shows the station concourse reflected in the Wave. I love the colours that combine to give a really warm and joyous feel to the image. Hope you like it too! Best wishes, Alexa
