Yes. I won my first cooking competition in Cubs with my mum’s delicious chicken curry. I take my turn cooking for the family two or three times a week.

Any cooking tips?

Coconut oil – don’t underestimate its enormous proven health benefits.

What’s your favourite dish?

A good steak, medium rare with béarnaise sauce, or lamb nihari, a typical Punjabi curry with lamb shank and pungent spices, covered in fried onions.

And a drink to go with it?

With steak an Argentinian malbec. Sweet wine is the ideal companion for curry: a German Gewürztraminer.

Abdul’s on Ecclesall Road; I always ask for my food authentic ‘Apna’ style.

And pub?

The Ranmoor Inn or The York in Broomhill.

What’s the worst meal you’ve ever had?

Ambotik shark curry in Goa: it was just floating cartilage.

And the best?

At Michelin-starred Pollen Street Social in Mayfair: a 40th birthday treat. Desserts alone are four courses, including a heavenly fudge made of 15-year-old whisky.

Your favourite TV cook?

Keith Floyd.

What do you think of Sheffield as a place to eat out?

Still a bit ‘chainy’ for my liking. Good to see more independents opening up.
