Food for Thought with Linz Lonchar
Linz Lonchar lives in Wadsley Park Village with husband George, two boys, her mum and a miniature schnauzer. On Monday the couple are opening The Cabin, a pancake and waffle coffee house near Atkinsons, just off The Moor.
Are you a cook?
I’ve always been the family cook unless it’s a pancake, waffles or a barbie.
Any cooking tips?
Allow time to enjoy the creative experience – and make it fun where possible.
What’s your favourite dish?
Fruit pancakes with maple syrup and bacon are definitely up there – with home-made beef stroganoff or Mexican fajitas.
And a drink to go with it?
A great coffee for brunch or a glass of fruity wine.
Your favourite restaurant in the Sheffield area?
The Mediterranean in Sharrow Vale – their scallops with cream and wine are to die for!
The Admiral Rodney in Loxley for its great views.
What’s the worst meal you’ve ever had?
I once tried to cook frozen squid... it tasted like erasers fried in garlic butter!
And the best?
Scallops, followed by monkfish and then peanut butter parfait at The Mediterranean... or melt-in-the-mouth steak on a stone in Madeira.
Your favourite TV cook?
Can I cheat and say a book instead? James Duigan’s Clean & Lean really opened my eyes to a new way of eating.
What do you think of Sheffield as a place to eat out?
Fantastic! There’s so much variety – but I still think there’s a gap for American-style pancakes, bagels and waffles for The Cabin to fill!
