A former bank in Hathersage has been given a £1m revamp into a modern restaurant and cocktail bar '“ The Bank House Bar & Restaurant '“ and is set to open on September 29.

The three-story banking building in the centre of Hathersage has been vacant for five years following the departure of NatWest in 2013. The building dates from 1910 and features striking neo-Jacobean style architecture.

The £1 million development has been underway since July 2016 and will cater for 90 covers across the restaurant and bar, will offer a modern Mediterranean inspired menu using authentic ingredients as well as a cocktail menu inspired by '˜banking heritage.'

The building is split across three levels, with the cocktail bar wrapped around an exposed bank vault and social dining on the ground floor, the restaurant on the first floor and private dining on the second.

Operations director Lawrence Key added: 'This venue will be defined by our menu which offers a playful take on British cuisine with broad European influences emphasising local, rustic, seasonal and sustainable ingredients. The restaurant serves a balance of the quirky and conventional, reimagined regional and classic European dishes.'
