Shaun Bloodworth has been in the Northern General Hospital for almost four months waiting for a transplant, according to his friend Claire Thornley, director at Eleven Design Consultants in Sheffield and editor of city listings website Our Favourite Places.

His leg had to be amputated after an infection.

Claire said the operation was now ‘imminent’ but it was becoming critical that he received a new liver soon.

Shaun is a self-employed photographer who has a partner and two children. He is a stalwart of Sheffield’s creative scene, taking portraits of everyone from ‘John Simpson to John Shuttleworth,’ and his work has been featured in the National Portrait Gallery.

His interest in underground music has led him to regularly collaborate with BBC DJ Mary Anne Hobbs on images that have been seen around the world. He has also moved into filmmaking.

Claire added: “Shaun has had a massive impact on how Sheffield is seen within the city and around the world. All this talent, and one of the nicest men you’ll ever meet too.”

Now his friends have organised a free event at the Forum on Devonshire Street on September 1 to raise funds for him and his family.

Pete McKee, The Black Dog, Chris Smith, Pipes, Kid Acne and Pho-Ku Sound System will be playing records and there will be raffle prizes from organisations including Warp Records, The Black Dog and CPU Records.

Claire said: “We’ll also be holding an online auction of fantastic stuff donated by some of Shaun’s creative chums. All money raised from the events in Sheffield and London, the raffle and auction will be donated to Shaun and his family to make this most difficult of times a little bit easier, and to show our love and support.”

Bidding for the auction will start at www.ourfaveplaces.co.uk soon.
