A POLICE officer is swapping his uniform for shorts and trainers to raise £2,012 in a series of sporting challenges marking the year of the Olympics.

Ian Morgan, who works for the Manor and Arbourthorne Safer Neighbourhood Team in Sheffield, plans to donate the cash he raises to St Luke’s Hospice in Whirlow.

The 33-year-old bobby intends to run the Sheffield Half Marathon in May, the Dronfield 10k and a triathlon in Holmfirth which will see him swimming 400 metres, cycling 19.4km and running 5.6km.

He has also given up alcohol for six months while his wife Sally is pregnant with their second child.

Ian, dad to a two-year-old son, said: “I decided I wanted to get fitter and just be healthier in general, so by setting myself this fundraising goal I hoped it would make me more likely to stick to it.

“I chose St Luke’s because it provides vital support for people in the region who are suffering from incurable illnesses.
