The Gym Group is to open new 21,000 sq ft premises as part of its expansion plans in the north - meaning fitness fans will be able to combine keeping in shape with shopping.

The launch, scheduled for November, will mark more than 80 locations for The Gym Group across the UK.

Also adding to the Frenchgate mix are Chinese food specialist Chopstix Noodle Bar, which will take a 1,250 sq ft site, and Graveleys fish and chips, which will open a 2,500 sq ft site. Chopstix and Graveleys are both due to open later this year.

The Frenchgate Limited Partnership's Paul Devlin said the Gym Group would add "huge depth" to the shopping centre's offer.

"This letting sits perfectly with our strategy of diversifying the line-up, with a focus on providing more exciting options for our local shoppers, and in turn increasing dwell time at Frenchgate".

John Treharne, founder and chief executive of The Gym Group, added: "Frenchgate offers the perfect town centre location for The Gym.

"The broad range of well-established retail and restaurant outlets already attracts a high volume of people."
