A volunteer aged 85 who has helped hospital patients in Sheffield for a quarter of a century has been given a special medal for her loyal service.
Mildred Cooper, a member of the League of Friends charity, leads the welcoming service in outpatients at the Northern General, meeting unaccompanied patients who arrive by ambulance and helping them to check in.
Helpers with the service also provide people with food and drink, and make sure they are comfortable during their visit. Mildred was given an Order of Mercy medal by the League of Mercy, a national organisation which honours volunteers’ hard work.
Chris Morley, deputy chief nurse at Sheffield Teaching Hospitals, said: “We are delighted that Mildred has received this prestigious award and are extremely grateful to her and all of our volunteers.”
