An active consultant anaesthetist at Barnsley Hospital has completed a gruelling virtual row to raise cash for the hospital’s charity.
Dr Cris Swinhone worked up a sweat on a rowing machine to cover the distance from Dover to Calais and back again.
Starting at 9.30am, Dr Cris Swinhoe, conquered the virtual Channel, arriving into Calais at 11.42am. After stopping for an imaginary baguette and a few choice refreshments, the big-hearted doctor left fantasy France at 12.40pm, making it back to Blighty at 2:55pm, rowing an impressive 68 kilometres and raising almost £700.
Cris said: “I took on this challenge as it was a great way to contribute to the cost of new equipment for the anaesthetics department.
“It was also a fantastic chance to engage people with the work we do, and, hopefully, an interesting way to raise funds.”
Other fundraising activities that have taken place to fund new equipment, include a tombola and a cake stall, donated by the hospital staff.
Cris added: “I’d like to thank everybody who donated and my team for supporting me throughout the row.”
