superfit Mike Thomas has been swimming, cycling and running to raise vital funds for St Luke’s Hospice in Sheffield.

The father-of-two decided to get into shape as he finished his Christmas dinner last December - and little more than six months later completed a gruelling triathlon and raised £735 towards the hospice’s £5 million development.

“I’d been out of shape for a while but it was my trainer who gave me the idea of trying a triathlon,” said Mike, aged 37, who lives in Whirlow with wife Sophie and daughters Emily, aged five, and 18-month-old Lyra.

His family helped raise cash for the hospice’s new inpatient unit as he completed a 400m swim, 22.5km bike ride and 5km run.
