The Olympic legacy is coming to Barnsley in a bid to get more people taking part in sport.

The Your Sport, Your Town scheme aims to help people find activities and sports clubs in their local area using a specially designed website.

The project, supported by companies and organisations from across Barnsley, hopes that by providing free venues for taster sessions and connecting people to them, more local people will get involved in sport.

David Redfern, of Barnsley Premier Leisure, said: “We are delighted that the website is now live.

“It is a great way for individuals to locate a sport that is right for them in the area and also superb for clubs to promote what they do.”

Clubs can upload details about their sport and events to the website, allowing users to find out what is going on.

“This will be a great tool for people to use, not just now but for the foreseeable future,” David said.

Local swimmer James Kirton and table tennis player Sue Gilroy, who competed in the London 2012 Paralympics, said they hope the initiative will help encourage people in Barnsley to try something new.
