MORE than 1,000 people will be stepping out tonight for St Luke’s Hospice - and there is still time to join them.
Registrations for the Starlight Walk have already beaten last year’s total, but anyone can sign up at Endcliffe Park before 6pm tonight to take part.
The event, which is backed by The Star, starts at 4pm with live music, entertainment and the 2km Mini Stars event for four to eight-year-olds.
And as the sun sets, at around 8.45pm, the main 5km walk will set off to Forge Dam and back.
Last year’s event raised £65,000 - but this year the hospice is hoping to hit £80,000.
St Luke’s, which was Britain’s first hospice outside London when it was set up 41 years ago, needs to raise £4 million a year to run its service for terminally-ill people.
The charity touches the lives of 1,500 patients a year, making their lives more comfortable in their final days, whether in their own home or at the hospice in Whirlow.
Registration for tonight’s event costs £15 per person while children aged five to 15 take part for £10. The Mini Stars event costs £5 per child.
Anyone who raises more than £85 wins a St Luke’s mug, £150 will win a gym bag and the top individual fundraiser wins an Apple iPod.
