A junior football squad could score a cool £100,000 – if fans vote for the team to win a national competition.

Handsworth Junior Sporting Club are competing with seven other clubs across the country to win the prize from Budweiser.

The club’s fortunes have already recently changed after they secured a £50,000 grant for a full refurbishment of their main facilities and to replace the old grandstand.

And the £100,000 would be used to continue creating quality facilities to develop young local footballers and look at more ways of involving the community – including disability participation.

Football fans can now throw their weight behind the club by watching a short video created by the squad and voting for it to win.

Bob Hill, club president and founder of the Hallamshire County League Club, said: “The £50,000 grant will help us create our vision of providing the best possible football experience for our own players and families and also our opposition.

“The plans we have in place for the grandstand are now very much a reality thanks to the Budweiser funding and I know the community will reap the benefits once it’s complete.

“We can’t even begin to imagine what £100,000 would help us do for the community.”

The Football Foundation helps choose grant recipients for the Budweiser Club Futures cash each season.

South East Sheffield MP Clive Betts has also wished the club ‘every success’ in the bid.

n Visit by January 28 to vote for the team.
