TOP politicians have backed last-ditch calls to stop a Sheffield-based asylum seeker being deported to Africa today.
Both Brightside and Hillsborough Labour MP David Blunkett and regional Lib Dem MEP Edward McMillan-Scott are supporting a campaign to let Bernard Mboueyeu remain in the UK.
Mr Mboueyeu, whose wife Sharon was a Lib Dem candidate at the last council elections, is in detention awaiting a flight back to his native Cameroon today after losing appeals to stay in the UK.
Bernard, who was working for charities in Sheffield before being ordered to stop as part of his bail, fled Cameroon for political reasons.
Mr McMillan-Scott said: “It affronts natural justice that he should be deported. Cameroon is run by a brutal and repressive regime. I am offering my personal support.”
