Hospital problem solved for tour stage

Two more neighbourhoods are getting the chance to see Tour de France riders speed through Sheffield, following the final confirmation of next year’s route.

Sheffield City Council has held discussions with event organisers about how best to avoid the Northern General Hospital, where access is needed for visitors and ambulance.

An agreement has been reached for Grand Départ cyclists to take a route through Shirecliffe and Burngreave, skirting round the hospital, before finishing outside the Motorpoint Arena.

Cyclists will enter Sheffield on the A628 on July 6, taking in Bradfield, Worrall, Grenoside and Hillsborough. Crowds of 250,000 are expected.
