HenPower involves encouraging people living in care homes to take part in creative activities - with looking after the birds used as a catalyst. The charity wants to take on an ‘associate’ to co-ordinate the project in the city.

The project is running in over 30 care homes in the North East, and £1m was awarded by the Big Lottery Fund to roll out the programme, led by Equal Arts, across the UK. Equal Arts’ director Douglas Hunter said: “What started as a pilot project in one home is now supporting hundreds of older people.”
