'˜I didn't do my job' admits Sheffield Tigers speedway ace

Tigers have managed just one win in their last eight meetings so a second successive home victory is vital. They remain fifth in the table but the chasing pack are fast-approaching leaving them in danger of missing out on the all-important top six.

Young gun Josh Bates believes the Tigers showcased their potential with a 50-40 win over a previously unbeaten Somerset side last Thursday.

But after a disappointing weekend with defeats at Somerset and Newcastle, he is keen to see them get back on track with another home win.

“We really needed that win against Somerset, and it gave everyone a big confidence boost,” said Bates.

“To end Somerset’s unbeaten run was a fantastic result for Sheffield, and it just shows that we can beat anyone at home.

“I didn’t really do my job in that meeting, I did okay but I wanted to do better. I had a few problems but I managed to sort them out and improve as the weekend progressed. When the whole team is switched on we are a good side, we just all need to click together and do our jobs.

“A few of us have been having issues in the last few meetings, and the way things are going we might not make the play-offs so we need to do better.

“We’re good enough to be in the play-offs so we need to start winning more regularly again, so hopefully we can work together to get the points we need.”

Both sides will be at full strength for the meeting, with Sheffield welcoming Jason Garrity back from a hand injury which caused him to miss Sunday’s defeat at Newcastle.

Edinburgh are led by World Cup finalist Sam Masters and also include all-action American international Ryan Fisher.
