Horrified children and parents looked on in disbelief as around 15 motorcycles tore through Chapeltown Park on Saturday, March 19, during a kite-building event.

Upon being confronted, one of the riders reportedly stopped and did a wheel-spin – spraying mud all over an event organiser.

Luckily, nobody was harmed. But in the wake of the incident, residents came to The Star to urge the authorities to take action.

Coun Sioned-Mair Richards, cabinet member for neighbourhoods, said: “It’s awful the amount of thoughtless damage being done illegally by these bikers. The vandalised signage is being replaced to remind people that horses, motor bikes and quad bikes are not permitted in Sheffield Parks. As it’s up to the police to enforce this I’ve also met with inspector Burgess about this serious problem. We can’t wait until someone is injured before we act. This weekend’s Easter Egg Hunt fortunately went off without interruption. I was hugely impressed by the organisation, so many happy busy children and parents enjoying the event with them.”
