This was the tranquil scene when Yorkshire played Kent in a county championship match at Abbeydale Park back in 1980.
Despite attracting decent crowds and generating a festival atmosphere for the annual visit to Sheffield the decision was made to concentrate Yorkshire home matches on Headingley. It was felt that it gave better scope for corporate opportunities and membership recruitment by not requiring travel outside West Yorkshire.
The last first class match at Abbeydale was in May 1996 when Yorkshire played Derbyshire in the Sunday League.
It means the county can no longer talent-spot in the way future captain Michael Vaughan was picked out hitting a ball around on the outfield with his school mates during the lunch interval.
