A BUDDING Chesterfield singer hopes to strike a chord with the loved ones of fallen servicemen when she releases her debut single on Monday.

Laura Ashby will donate all profits from Soldier’s Wife, which tells the tale of a woman whose husband is killed at war, to Help for Heroes.

The song was penned by ’80s rocker John Parr, singer of St Elmo’s Fire.

It is particularly poignant for Laura, 26, who lost her own husband Jon to a heart attack two years ago.

She said: “The very first time I heard the song with its beautiful words I immediately felt a connection with the wives who have lost their husbands tragically in war. This song gives me the chance to do something to help.”

Soldier’s Wife will be available from HMV in Chesterfield as well as online via iTunes. Laura will also perform it at fundraising concert at Ponds Forge on Saturday, November 3.
