SHARON Shannon, the accordionist from Ireland who has achieved legendary status throughout the world and has made the much-maligned squezebox ‘cool,’
is at Sheffield City Hall tonight (Thursday, February 21), Her collaborations have spread far beyond Irish traditional music to Hip-Hop, Cajun, Country, Classical and Rap. Support comes from Sheffield’s Jon Windle,formerly of Little Man Tate.
Sheffield’s Big Band maestro Keith Roe, returns once again to the City Hall’s ballroom for the unique Big Band Ballroom Dance on Saturday. His 14 piece ensemble is one of only a few big bands across the country who can play for the waltz, foxtrot and quickstep and Latin American dances as well as old time dances. The band is joined by vocalists Gary St. John, Sarah Buckley and Richard Carlin.
The Funhouse Comedy Club at the New Barrack Tavern has a Should I Stay Or Should I Go? Gong Show on Wednesday with 15 acts competing in comedy’s answer to Britain’s Got Talent and the X-Factor.
Each does two minutes, then audience judges vote on who to keep on and who to send off. Compere is Spiky Mike.
