SADS UK charity member, Lee Gosling, was keen to support the national cardiac charity SADS UK Big Shock campaign to make defibrillators available in all schools and colleges to help save lives and Newfield School has benefited thanks to his fundraising 40-mile one-day hike.

A defibrillator is lifesaving equipment that works to restore the heart rhythm if a person goes into cardiac arrest and the earlier it is used the better the chance is of survival. The defibrillator placed at the school is easy to use by the layperson, providing voice prompts to the rescuer.

Anne Jolly, founder of SADS UK, the Ashley Jolly SAD Trust, said: “SADS UK is grateful to Lee and his family and friends for their support and pleased that Newfield School will benefit from having a defibrillator to restart the heart if there is a cardiac arrest on the premises.

“SADS UK works with schools and it highlights the fact that as schools are a major hub in the community that they should have defibrillators in place to save lives.

“The SADS UK Big Shock Campaign urging Government to legislate for all schools to have defibrillators received an enormous boost when a Private Members Bill requesting legislation was brought forward on November 15.”
