Local jobs for local people

MORE than 700 people are to be interviewed for a job at Asda’s new store in Parson Cross - two for every job.

The store advertised 350 posts at Job Centre Plus and now those to be interviewed have been informed.

A spokesman for the store said that more than 90 per cent of applicants who made it to the interviews live close enough to walk to the store and will make up the majority of the new staff appointed.

One person who has already been interviewed and landed a job is local resident Dawn Kirk.

Dawn, who lives in Wordsworth Avenue, says she is now looking forward to a new challenge working on the checkouts.

She said: “I’m so pleased to have landed a job at Asda.

“This new job is important for me and my family and living so close means it’s the ideal opportunity.”

Russell Clark, from Hillsborough Job Centre Plus, said: “We are delighted to be working with Asda on the recruitment process for the new Chaucer Road store.

“The store opening has created a great opportunity for our customers to find permanent jobs with a quality employer.

“The Asda recruitment team have given us full access to the recruitment process, allowing us to tailor a specific package of support for our customers.

“The knowledge and experience we have gained from working with Asda will be invaluable to us when we look to prepare our customers for future recruitment.”

Asda Chaucer Road store manager Steve Ryan said: “We’ve tried to make the recruitment process as smooth and local as possible.

“We’ve seen 42 people a day for interview, which is good going.

“Because of this, many of our 350 new jobs have gone to local people.”
