Loving tributes to ‘caring’ South Yorkshire teenager killed at party

THE heartbroken family of a man who died after he suffered burns at a party in South Yorkshire have paid tribute to a ‘caring and lovely’ young man.

Steven Simpson, aged 18, died after suffering ‘significant burns’ at a party on Pleasant View, Cudworth, in the early hours of Saturday.

A statement issued by his family, said: “Steven had just turned 18 and was just starting out in life.

“Kevin and Jackie, Steven’s father and stepmother, and Bernadette, his mother, cannot describe the loss they all feel at this time.

“Steven was a very caring and lovely young man and will be missed by everyone that knows him.”

Meanwhile dozens of tributes to Steven, who is believed to have been a student at Barnsley College, have been put on social networking website Facebook.

A Facebook group called RIP Steven Simpson, set up at the weekend, already has more than 200 members.

Jayne Firth wrote: “You always had a smile for me whenever I saw you.

“Today you have been constantly in my thoughts. Nothing makes sense any more. My heart is breaking for your Mum, Dad, family and close friends.

“I will never forget your smiling face. Fly high sweetheart, may you rest in peace, free from the pain you have suffered.”

Meanwhile Leigh Lou Hewitt Wilkin wrote: “Thinking of all your family.”

And Charlotte Nixon Moore posted: “RIP Steven. All my thoughts and love goes to your family and closest friends. Such a tragic loss, sleep tight and God bless.”

Lauren Marsh said: “I couldn’t believe it when I heard what happened. I remember having great times with you in primary school and you’re definitely going to be sorely missed by everyone who knew you. RIP darling.”

And Laura Exley said: “I can’t believe you’re gone already. You were such a lovely boy, you never did a thing wrong to anyone.”

Eleanor Jane Telford posted: “It’s unfair that such a young and carefree lad such as yourself had to go in the most tragic and horrific way, but whoever did this will be brought to justice.

“Rest in peace Steven.”

Following the attack Steven was rushed to several hospitals for emergency and specialist treatment, but he died on Sunday evening.

Six people were arrested on suspicion of attempted murder on Saturday; three men, aged between 19 and 39 and three teenagers aged 16 and 17, all from Barnsley.

The 16-year-old female was released due to insufficient evidence and the remaining five people were bailed.
