Sheffield Steeldogs say quality hockey and hard work was behind their nerve-jangling win over Basingstoke Bison, a team ahead of them in the EPL standings, last weekend.

Dogs lost a 4-2 lead and at one point were 5-4 down as the end of regulation time loomed.

But Andy Hirst, scoring his second of the night ensured the game went into overtime.

Lubomir Korhon, who had also netted earlier in the game, came up with the game-winner at 62;24.

Player coach Andre Payette, who had been suspended from the encounter, commented: “We are playing some really good hockey at the moment. Last week against Manchester I don’t know how we didn’t win. We’ve played a few games in a row like that now. We didn’t quit against Basingstoke, we had a 10 minute lull where they scored three goals, other than that we dominated.

“I’m proud of the guys, we’re buying in to working our tails off. Next Sunday against Milton Keynes is a big game. They are the team behind us and we need to win at home. We’d like to see lots of fans come out, help us, get behind us. We going to make a run here and try to get to the play-off finals in Coventry”.
