Officers from the Sheffield East Response Team apprehended the duo following what they described as a 'short foot pursuit.'

Following their capture yesterday evening they were taken away for questioning on suspicion of being involved in a robbery outside the Park Hill Flats on Sunday evening.

Police have not yet confirmed whether the arrests relate to an incident in which a 43-year-old man was slashed on the head and robbed.

On Monday the force said the victim was attacked by 'persons unknown' in the South Street Park, close to the Park Hill flats, on Sunday at about 11.20pm.

In a statement, South Yorkshire Police said: 'He suffered slash injuries to his head and was taken to hospital to receive treatment.

'The victim's injuries were not serious and he was sent home from hospital after treatment.

'A quantity of cash was taken during the incident.'
