Man charged with attempted murder after shooting in Shiregreen, Sheffield

A Sheffield man has been charged with attempted murder after a man in his 60s was shot during a break-in.

Jonathan McGregor, 23, of Paper Mill Road, has been charged with attempted murder and aggravated burglary in connection with an incident in the Shiregreen area. He has been remanded into custody.

Police were called to Harley Brook Road at about 2.45am on Monday, June 6, to reports a house in the area had been broken. A South Yorkshire Police spokesman said the occupant, a man in his 60s, suffered an injury ‘consistent with a firearms discharge’.

Enquiries into the incident remain ongoing and detectives are keen to hear from anyone with information about what happened.

A 25-year-old man arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and aggravated burglary has since been bailed pending further enquiries.

Police are still appealing for witnesses. Call 101 quoting incident 87 of June 6.

The attack was the first of two violent incidents in Hartley Brook Road last week. Police were called on Saturday morning, June 11 to reports that a man had been stabbed. The victim, a 37-year-old man, was taken to hospital with injuries not thought to be life-threatening.

A 36-year-old man has been arrested in relation to the incident.
