Man dies after M1 crash in South Yorkshire

A man has died after being involved in a two car collision on the M1 yesterday afternoon.

Police are appealing for witnesses following the accident, which happened at around 2.30pm on the M1 Southbound.

A South Yorkshire Police spokesman said: “At around 2.30pm, it is reported that a black Volksagen Golf and a white Citroen DS4 were involved in a collision on the M1 southbound carriageway, close to Junction 35.

“The driver of the Golf, a 56-year-old man from Barnsley, was taken to hospital via air ambulance but was pronounced dead a short time later. His relatives have been informed and are receiving support.

“The male driver of the Citroen and a male passenger in the Golf suffered minor injuries that required hospital treatment.

“The southbound carriageway was closed for a number of hours while emergency services responded.”
