Marathon fundraiser will help brave children

Organisers are encouraging more people to join the 1,500 who have already signed up for the Chesterfield and Derbyshire Marathon.

The event – which promises to be one of Chesterfield’s largest mass participation events in more than 30 years – will take place on Sunday, September 14.
A group of volunteers is being formed to help out at the race, which is primarily in aid of national charity Kids ‘n’ Cancer UK.

Runners can choose between completing the full marathon, a half marathon, a relay marathon or a fun run.

The race will start and finish in Queens Park in the town centre, where two dance troupes, live bands, fairground rides and food tents will greet the runners.

Mike Hyman, founder of the Chesterfield and Derbyshire Marathon, urged people to sign up.

He said: “This is a great opportunity for local people to get involved with a brilliant event in Chesterfield.

“We are all excited about the marathon. It is going to be a fantastic day for everyone in the community and we hope as many people as possible can be involved with it.”

Entry into the event costs £45 for the full marathon, £35 for the half marathon, £100 for the relay marathon and £5 for the fun run.

Anyone raising £200 or more for Kids ‘n’ Cancer receiving free entry.
